Writers to the Times-News OpinionPage are reminded that we will not publish guest columns about candidates involved in elections. This is especially true in the presidential race where dozens of readers are interested in writing epic-length summations of why neither President Barack Obama nor Gov. Mitt Romney are fit to hold office. Letters only is the rule. Letters should be no longer than 350 words.
In terms of endorsements, we’re not taking them quite as we have in the past. If letter writers would care to highlight an issue or position about a candidate with which they agree, we will consider it for publication. Simply saying “I support (insert name here) for office,” won’t make the cut. In addition, letter writers focusing on political matters will get one chance to do so from now to Election Day.
Letter writers who follow the rules stand a much better chance of being published. Thanks for your help.
