Yes, the Rolling Stones are 50, maybe the most remarkable achievement of the last half-century — pop culture division — all things considered.
Mike Jagger first took the stage with the Rolling Stones 50 years ago today. It set off a wild ride of sex, drugs and rock’n'roll that scorched the music landscape for most of the 1960s and ’70s. Easily the Stones and Beatles were the two most influential bands of the decade in which they began. But only the Stones are still going on and on and on. Jagger and Keith Richards were there at the start — later to be joined by Charlie Watts and Ron Wood.
