Schramm on the scene

Sometimes the writers just get in the way.

Yes, it’s not uncommon for newspaper photographers to get a stray reporter in the shot at the scene of an accident or at a large gathering where access to different locations might be limited. Usually the shooters know this means the photo is unuseable. After all, who wants to see a reporter horning in on a good photo. Many a frustrated photographer has tossed a pretty good picture because a reporter accidently made the shot.

But this one is a little different. The Associated Press moved this photo tonight of UNC player Tyler Zeller. The shooter in this case decided the reporters interviewing the Tar Heels returning center would make a good photo from media day. We liked it right away — largely because it includes our own Stephen Schramm there on the far left.

Now I know he wasn’t out playing golf instead of heading to Chapel Hill — not that Stephen would ever do such a thing. Stephen and cohort Adam Smith — who team up for our online video show “The Weekly Burn”  — produce outstanding work in print and online. In fact, I like to call “The Weekly Burn” “The Best Damned Low-Budget College Football Show, Period.”

And this photo of Schramm? Well, we’re going to publish it.
