Somebody posted it online so I wanted to see for myself. Situations like this are why I got into journalism years and years ago – the endless struggle to reach the truth no matter what.
OK, here goes. On recent stories concerning the Burlington City Council’s decision about how to replace its vacant seat, longtime councilman David Huffman has been called “The Lorax” by online posters — supposedly after the tree-loving Dr. Seuss character of yore.
Uh huh.
So let’s see. Here’s Huffman, an area attorney.

OK, here’s the Lorax.

Seperated at birth or not? You make the call.

And here are a couple of quick takes on today’s local headlines but the story of the day is still those lawsuits from victims of Hurricane Katrina, one seeking $3 quadrillion. How much is that in semoleons?

THUMB’S UP to Elon’s Phoenix basketball team for a solid effort Wednesday night in a two-point loss to highly regarded Davidson. Even though Elon fell short in its upset bid, it had the mighty Wildcats down and almost out in what was likely the Phoenix’ best effort of the year to date. Davidson, which took Carolina to the limit earlier this year, got much more than it bargained for on this trip to Alumni Gym.

THUMB’S UP to the Mebane City Council for trying to think about ways to deal with the ongoing drought and beyond. Councilmen correctly assessed this week that managing a crisis is not the time to foolishly make outlandish changes that could destroy the future. After all, little can be done to fill up a sagging lake when no rain is coming. Looking at ways to improve the water supply in the years ahead is the best course. That’s how Burlington got Lake Mackntosh.

Go Phoenix!
Alex, Alex, Alex … you’re such an obvious homer.
You need to find an old photo of Huffman with a mustache. Therein lies the comparison, me thinks.
